Performance Management and Performance Measurement

A recognized approach to management in the public and nonprofit program environment, Performance Management combines the products of both evaluation and performance measurement to supply organizations with the data-based evidence on policy and program accomplishments.
Performance Measurement is a more general management tool than evaluation.  Performance measurement is designed and implemented to measure on-going program performance and trends in the organization's effect on their sector.  Information from evaluations is used to build or enhance the performance management system.  Performance measurement uses both qualitative and quantitative measures of program results thus broadening the generalizability of any findings within the home context.  Including the effect of a new program on the operations of existing interventions, for example, would use the methods identified as performance measurement.
